Community turbine meeting upcoming

Meeting held at Harrington Opera House

HARRINGTON — Those closely following proposed wind turbine project developments will have a chance to learn more about various community viewpoints and issues soon. The Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Association is sponsoring a community meeting at the Harrington Opera House to help educate the public at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26.

Moderator Sue Lani Madsen said the meeting’s purpose is to establish a “baseline of information” and attempt to answer questions citizens have.

“We want to establish a culture of being able to discuss a divisive issue without it tearing the community apart,” Madsen said.

Wind turbine developments have been a controversial subject in Lincoln County as roughly 20 landowners have leased parcels to Triple Oak Power, a Portland-based company looking to build turbines north and northeast of Davenport, and Tenaska/Cordelio, a joint venture from Omaha and Toronto-based companies looking to build two projects in the Davenport, Reardan and Harrington areas.

The meeting’s agenda includes talks on industrial wind facilities from rancher and hydrogeologist David Boleneus, property tax impacts by Commissioner Rob Coffman, state government perspective from Ninth Legislative District Rep. Mary Dye and county permitting from the county Planning Commission.

Doors to the Opera House open at 6 p.m. The event is scheduled to conclude at 9 p.m.
