Precursor to Junior Livestock Show
DAVENPORT — The second annual Lincoln County Spring Showcase is back this weekend. The event intended as something of a precursor to the Junior Livestock Show of Spokane will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Saturday, April 13.
The Showcase, hosted by WSU Extension, will include judging of market hogs and gilts, steer and heifer classes, market and ewe lambs and meat goats and doelings between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Youths ages 8-19 that participate in 4-H or FFA programs will be showing.
From 2-4 p.m., 4-H and FFA students will show their swine, sheep, beef and meat goats, with champion and reserve showmen selected for each age division. A select grand champion and reserve champion showman for 4-H and FFA divisions will be awarded for each species.
Registration for the showcase closed Wednesday, April 10.
Division and reserve division champions will compete for a supreme and supreme reserve champion, with cash payouts awarded. Entries were $20 per animal.
The judges are Maddie Schroeder of Columbia City, Indiana (goats and swine) and Bronson Smith of Powell, Wyoming (beef and sheep).
Dr. Todd Winzer of Davenport-based Wheatland Veterinary Clinic is the Showcase’s veterinarian.
Following the Spring Showcase, most youths will prepare for the Junior Livestock Show of Spokane May 1-4.
