Area youth among those racing at Irby
IRBY - Six riders from Lincoln County were among the racers competing in events during the Stumpjumpers 52nd annual Desert 100 race weekend.
The best local finish came from Davenport's Curtis Tanner, who finished second in the 50-mile adventure class.
The top local finish of Sunday's 100-mile race was courtesy of the team of Reardan's Bryson Flaa and Cohen Little, who finished fourth among 100-mile team competitors.
The other local rider was Jesse Luiten of Creston, who finished 21st in the 100-mile 30-39 division.
This year's Desert 100 fastest racer went to Jaden Dahners of Enumclaw, who finished first in the 100-mile race while competing in the 250cc class.
Competing Saturday, April 6, in youth divisions, Hudson and Hank Walter of Odessa finished 16th and 31st in their respective classes.
Hudson Walter competed in the 11-12 division and Hank Walter raced in the 9-10 division.
The youth events Saturday were a prelude to Sunday's finale, where riders raced on a 50-mile course in relay, 50-mile and 100-mile races.
On Friday, thousands of riders also joined in desert poker runs and other events.
Officials estimated more than 11,000 people spent part of the weekend camping and riding in Desert 100 events.
