Working group members named

Group to study county zoning code

DAVENPORT — The Lincoln County Planning Commission has appointed 12 members, not including Commission members, to a “working group” it elected to put together to further study proposed drafts of the County zoning code that includes updated sections regarding wind and solar developments here.

The 12 members will join the Planning Commission at a public meeting Monday, April 29 to, as Commission chair Sue Lani Madsen said, “outline issues and concerns, and to focus on how or whether they are appropriately addressed in a zoning ordinance.”

That meeting is at 6 p.m. at the county Public Works Dept. in east Davenport off State Highway 25.

Appointed to the working group were Cassandra Johnson, Leigh Ost, Ron Mielke, Terry Krupke, John Zeimantz, Stephanie Detrick, Thomas Schultz, Joseph Schultz, Gene Hein, Casey Nonnemacher and Mark Sheffels.

That group includes a mixture of anti-wind residents and landowners who have signed leases with wind power companies.

Triple Oak Power Senior Development Director Jen Bradford and Tenaska Project Manager Monte Ten Kley will advise on the side, but aren’t official members of the working group as non-county residents.

Triple Oak Power and Tenaska/Cordelio are attempting to build three wind turbine projects in Lincoln County. 34 lease agreements had been filed with the Auditor’s Office by press time.

“This is not an opportunity to debate the merits and demerits of wind-generated energy,” Madsen said. “We’ll focus on scientifically grounded setbacks and noise levels, and a (conditional use permit) process that is fair to all residents and industries in the community.”

The meeting will also help guide the agenda for the Planning Commission’s next meeting, which is May 13.
