100 years ago

Directors of the Washington Wheat Growers association voted to suspended 1924 crop operations to reorganize the association so the next year’s crop could be handled.

Davenport High School won the 18th annual Lincoln County track and field meet. Individually, Fred Livasy of Almira and Lyle Bailey of Harrington tied for individual high point scorers.

J.H. Landers of Sprague was jailed on a charge of getting married to one woman in the city while already having a wife and two children in Montana.

75 years ago

George Spilker, a charter member of the Davenport VFW post, was named “Veteran of the Month” by the Washington Dept. of the VFW.

James Williams, Ronnie Logan, Irvine Sobek and Ed and Glen Wollweber of Edwall entered calves in the Junior Livestock show in Spokane.

County auditor C.A. Ramm said he canceled 188 county voter registrations because they failed to vote for four straight years.

50 years ago

Senators Bob Lewis of Spokane and Jim Matson of Yakima told the Davenport Chamber of Commerce that the public may see a raise in state taxes because of legislative actions that put the state budget in the red.

14 people were arrested on drug charges during a marijuana raid in the Wilbur, Creston and Lincoln areas.

Lincoln County residents attended EXPO ’74 in Spokane, which was visited by President Richard Nixon, who gave a 10-minute talk on environmental matters.

25 years ago

Davenport previewed its “Angels Among Us” float with royalty court, including Queen Robin Shepherd and princesses April Buchanan and Dena Cowdrey.

Marie Breshears of Davenport was named Lincoln County rodeo queen, while Jennifer Smith of Odessa was named rodeo princess.

Reardan freshman Anjolette Stanger was named Reardan’s representative at the National Future Homemakers of America Conference in Boston.

10 years ago

Thomas E. Boynton of Colville was killed and John C. Helton of Wenatchee was injured in a head-on crash in the vicinity of the Seven Bays turnoff on Miles-Creston Road.

Davenport’s baseball team surprised themselves by qualifying for the District 7 tournament with wins over Liberty and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

48 people participated in Reardan’s “Walk in a Bucket,” now known as “Walk for Water,” to raise money for Water Missions International.
