One charged with vehicular assault

DAVENPORT — Three people were injured in a 2-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 2 seven miles west of the city Friday, May 3 and the man suspected of causing the crash faces two charges of vehicular assault.

Dean R. Swanson, 63, of Kennewick was Life Flighted to Sacred Heart Medical Center and faces the charges, according to a press release from Washington State Patrol and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office records.

He is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the crash, according to the release.

Ishana S. Abrahamson, 18, of Wellpinit and 13-year-old Shanoah Stearns were also injured in the crash and were transported to Lincoln Hospital, the release said.

According to State Patrol, Swanson was driving a 2007 Subaru Forester eastbound on the highway around 8:56 p.m. and crossed the center line into the westbound lane, crashing into a 2016 Hyundai Elantra driven by Abrahamson at milepost 242.8.

Swanson’s vehicle rolled onto its top and Abrahamson’s vehicle came to rest on the north side of the highway, according to the release.

Traffic was blocked in both directions due to the crash, and vehicles diverted onto Fictenberg Road, county Public Works Director Dave Orvis said Monday.

While cleaning up wreckage from the crash, fire crews reportedly discovered a second crash on Highway 2 at milepost 243 around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4. According to records, one person was transported to Lincoln Hospital with what officials said appeared to be minor injuries.
