Reardan tennis battles at 2B Districts

Second day coming Saturday

CHEWELAH — The Reardan tennis team doesn’t have any players in district championship matches in the District 7 2B Tournament, but several athletes have a chance to work through the consolation bracket to try and advance to regionals.

Competition began Tuesday, May 7, where Hailey Fry advanced to the girls singles semifinals with wins over an unnamed St. George’s player and Emily Howder of Chewelah. Complete match results weren’t available by press time.

Fry lost to Chewelah’s Avi Sahota in the semifinals and will play teammate Kerstin Lundgren in the consolation semifinals Saturday, Chewelah athletic staff said.

Lundgren defeated Danika Cox of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and lost to Audra Gliniak of St. George’s.

EJ Preuschoff beat Chewelah’s Dillan Dituri in the first round, then lost to Robert DeFrost of St. George’s and is in the consolation round.

Elsa Wester defeated Kettle Falls’ Kiki Golphenee, then lost to Chewelah’s Simi Sahota and Elsa Goeke of St. George’s.

The Durbin brothers also advanced to consolation play in boys doubles, but match results weren’t available.

In girls doubles play, Reardan’s teams of Genesis Garcia/Kayla Vining and Elsa Wescer/Elyanna Crego were both eliminated from the tournament.

District play continues at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at Whitworth University in North Spokane.
