Five Tigers, two Gorillas qualify for state golf

Odessa boys win District title at Asotin

ASOTIN - Five Odessa golfers and two Davenport linksmen are headed to Tumwater for the WIAA State Golf Tournament after qualifying at Districts Wednesday, May 8.

The Odessa boys also took home a District title in their efforts.

A senior-laden squad of Tigers is Tumwater-bound. Chad Strebeck, Jacob Scrupps, Jared Valverde and Melloney Deife all qualified for state, while junior Levi Hardung rounds out the Odessa bunch.

Deife finished third at Districts, shooting a 178 between two 18-hole rounds. Ella Schlomer placed sixth and is the first alternate into the state tournament.

On the boys side, Strebeck and Valverde each shot 162 over two rounds at Districts to tie for sixth, while Hardung and Scrupps tied for 16th with a 176.

And two cousins will represent Davenport in Tumwater. Senior Maddox Schumacher finished third at Districts with a combined 156, including a 77 in the final round.

And sophomore Mac Larmer shot a combined 176 to finish 15th and qualify for state.

The state tournament in Tumwater gets under way Tuesday, May 21.
