RHS senior elected at State FFA
PULLMAN - A Reardan High School student set to graduate next weekend will spend the next school year serving as the Washington FFA State Secretary. Senior Ashley Landt was elected to the position at the State FFA Convention Saturday, May 11.
Landt, a 5-year member of the Reardan FFA Chapter, was selected from 13 other candidates for the position. She will begin her duties as Secretary with a base camp training June 18, which is 10 days after graduation.
"I was surprised," Landt said. "My interviews didn't go as well as I'd hoped because I was focused on our other competitions, so I had to make it up in the delegate process."
For the application process, Landt filled out an essay and resume for nomination at state while earning her state degree.
At State, she completed a series of panel interviews, stood and delivered a 5-minute speech she had 10 minutes to prepare, gave a separate 2-minute speech to a wide variety of attending FFA delegates, completed a knowledge exam and was tested on parliamentary procedure.
Landt will serve as secretary until next May's state convention. Afterward, she plans to attend Washington State University and currently hopes to either become an ag teacher or lobbyist.
"I'm hoping that this next year can provide some more insight into what careers could be out there," Landt said.
Landt said she looks forward to traveling around the state and to national events in Washington, D.C. and Indianapolis. Fundraising pending, she may also get to travel to Spain and Portugal.
"I'm looking forward to meeting members and working with fellow state officers to learn how I can better serve my community," she said.
This is the second straight year that a Reardan FFA student has been elected a state officer. Andrew Schulz, a 2023 graduate, has spent this school year as FFA State President.
