Renate Ingrid Mattoon

Jan 26, 1941-May 19, 2024

Renate Mattoon (Rumeney) was born the year of 1941 in Mandel Germany in the midst of WWII. Although she remembers lots of incidents during the war, she and her sisters and parents lived through the war unscathed.

Renate attended bakery school as a teenager and learned many of her baking skills that she used all of her life.

Renate met and married the love of her life, Mitchel Mattoon and together they raised two daughters, Cheri and Sylvia. The four of them enjoyed numerous camping and road trips, visits to her beloved homeland, and many joyous holidays. Renate's favorite holiday was Christmas. She made it special for not only her family but for so many of her friends. Her Christmas baking started in early November and if she knocked on your door with a plate of cookies, you were one of the many lucky ones.

Renate owned and operated a well known restaurant in Harrington Wash., the Challenger Cafe. Her weekend specials and happy atmosphere livened up the small town. We feel sorry for anyone that didn't get to taste her famous Black Forest Torte cake and her homemade pies.

Renate's legacy to her family was the meaning of unconditional love. That love never faltered. Renate was the heart and soul of her home. Her oil and water color paintings adorned many of her walls. She passed on to her daughters her many skills of sewing, cooking, knitting, crocheting and gardening. Her daughters would tell you that she set the example by teaching them with patience and kindness, as if she had all the time in the world.

Renate is preceded in death by her father Alfred Rumeney, her mother Maria Klein and her oldest sister Luise, her younger sister Rosel and brother-in-law Ludwig . Brother-in-laws Steven Mattoon and Colin Mattoon.

Renate is survived by her husband Mitchel Mattoon, her daughter and son-in-law Cheri and Joe-Stan Clark, her daughter and son-in-law Sylvia and Craig Haden. Grandchildren Austin Becker (Amanda), Ashleigh Maki (Wes), Carly Butkovich (Alex) and Kennedy Montemayor (Alec). Great grandchildren Jordyn, Beau and Avaleigh Fode and Maverick Becker. Brother-in-law Jerry Mattoon and Sister-in-law Carolyn Mattoon. And so many nephews and nieces in Germany and the United States who she loved so very much.

A private family memorial will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to: Assurance Hospice of Moses Lake 1417 S. Pioneer Way Moses Lake, Wash. 98837
