Residents still asked to conserve water

Lone working well dipping levels

HARRINGTON — The City’s only working well was showing signs of dropping below an acceptable level at press time, according to a message from Mayor Joe Armand Tuesday, June 11.

That led to a plea from Armand to cease outdoor watering and limit indoor water use for residents in city limits.

“Please stop watering immediately and take up extreme water conservation measures in our homes,” Armand said Tuesday.

The update came five days after Armand informed citizens that a submersible pump will be the quickest way to fixing the city’s other well, which failed May 21. That opinion came from a contractor.

“The inspection determined that our 120-foot-long shaft between the Motor and the Pump turbines has been damaged and a new motor would likely be damaged in a matter of months by the damaged well and seals that have been in the ground over 30 years,” Armand said in an update Thursday, June 6. “A submersible pump is going to be the fastest solution.”

He said the City’s goal is to have a new pump filling the reservoir in roughly four weeks.

UPDATE: The City is allowing odd-numbered houses to water up to 90 minutes on odd-numbered weekdays and even-numbered houses up to 90 minutes on even-numbered weekdays. Water levels were determined to still be usable Wednesday evening, June 12.
