100 years ago

A fire of mysterious origin caused $115,000 of damage at the Seattle Grain Company warehouse in Edwall.

150 couples attended a campers’ dance at the 23rd annual picnic of the Lincoln County Pioneer and Historical Association.

Garden-grown peas, beets and carrots were entirely destroyed by grasshoppers near Wilbur. The pests seemed to avoid tomatoes, corn and potatoes.

Grand Marshal Everett Cole led the line of march at Davenport’s Community Day parade.

The Reardan American Legion elected new officers, including Glenn Oehlschlaeger as commander, Jack Mann as first vice commander and William Anderson as second vice commander.

Luke Flood was elected the new “mayor” of Rocklyn at an impromptu meeting of citizens after Fred Magin was forced to resign because of his move to the city.

Les and JoAnn Moos of Edwall were named Soil Conservation Family of the Year.

Davenport’s post office ran out of PO boxes after a 100-box rental increase in a year’s time.

Lincoln Hospital hired Kenneth Tysor as business manager.

Marge Udahl of Davenport was inducted into the Spokane Softball Association’s Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame.

Gail Jantz retired after 17 years of teaching at Reardan High School.

Jerrod Warner and Carrie Teel of Harrington won a Washington State Law Enforcement Association essay contest for essays they wrote on staying drug and alcohol free.

Funeral services were held for U.S. Army Cpl. Justin Clouse of Sprague, who was killed in a friendly fire incident while serving a second tour in Afghanistan.

WSU’s Wilke Farm hosted two field events regarding agricultural’s impact on the state’s economy.

A Lincoln County Relay for Life was held in Davenport to raise money for research and support for those affected by cancer.
