Junior Rodeo is this weekend

Dozens of youths to compete

DAVENPORT — If one is having trouble waiting another two months for their rodeo fix at the Lincoln County Fair and Rodeo, they’re in luck. The Davenport Junior Rodeo, hosted by Friends of the Fair, is Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22.

Youths as young as three years old and as “old” as 18 will be competing in all sorts of rodeo events. Competition begins at 4 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

The Eastern Washington Junior Rodeo Association-sanctioned event is free to attend both nights.

“There’ll be lots of local kids,” Friends of the Fair president Bryce Bailey said. “Even if you don’t know the first name, you’ll know the last name and the family. It’s a great way to support these kids as they’re getting their careers as a contestant going.”

About 165 children had signed up to compete by press time, Bailey said. Food will be sold onsite and camping will be available for contestants coming from out of town.

Daysheets will be available at the rodeo. Most typical rodeo events will be featured, from mutton busting and goat tail untying for the littles to bull riding, barrel racing, chute dogging and more for the teenagers.

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Fair, Davenport FFA, Napa Auto Parts, Double B Cattle Company, Bar X Ranches and Shamrock. Buckles and cash prizes will be awarded.
