Walls to see third DUI charge
DAVENPORT — A Spokane man will be sentenced on felony charges in Lincoln County Superior Court for driving under the influence.
Daylon A. Walls, 28, previously pleaded guilty plea and will be sentenced Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The hearing is at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Jeffery S. Barkdull.
The sentencing date was set at a readiness hearing Tuesday, July 9.
The sentence stems from a driving under the influence arrest Sept. 15, 2023.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, it was 10:34 a.m. Sept. 15, 2023, when deputy Jonathan Evans was advised of a pickup truck driving recklessly along Highway 174 around Milepost 36.
According to court records, Jay Worden advised that the pickup had swerved across the highway and collided with a guardrail.
“Myself and Davis were dispatched to the call,” Evans said in court records.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office probable cause statement said deputies arrived at the scene at 11:08 a.m. Evans reportedly observed a man stumbling in the road just north of the vehicle, the statement said. The vehicle appeared to have been driven unintentionally off the road and was stuck with flat tires and damage.
“In essence, this is what I learned from my conversations with Walls.
He told me that he was trying to get to Spokane and that he was coming from Omak,” Evans said in court records. “He said he was in Omak doing work on billboards.”
While conversing with Walls at the scene, Walls stumbled and fell backward.
“It was very apparent that he was under the influence of intoxicants,” Evans said in court records. “His words were slurred. He had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his body.”
According to Evans, Walls was asked to do some voluntary sobriety tests, but declined. A witness statement from Worden told Evans that Walls had been traveling at about 70-80 mph and had run several vehicles off the road, records show.
Walls was transported to the Lincoln County Jail at 12:08 p.m. He was booked for driving under the influence and driving with his license invalidated.
Court records show Walls has a history of similar charges.
Walls was sentenced for driving under the influence June 2, 2015,, in Spokane County District Court.
He was also in Idaho County Magistrate Court on May 2, 2023, for a similar charge.
