Harrington school district to discuss goals and budget

HARRINGTON — The Harrington School District No. 204 Board of Directors will convene for its regular session at 7:00 a.m. on July 24, 2024, in the High School Library.

The meeting will discuss the district’s 2023-2024 school year goals, budget approvals, and policy reviews.

Superintendent Howard King is expected to outline the district’s goals for the 2023-2024 academic year, concentrating on three main areas: increasing student growth and development, retaining personnel and students, and providing a positive and safe school environment.

The session will begin with the call to order, the establishment of a quorum, and the flag salute. Board members expected to be present include Britney Wagner, Tony Hamilton, Michelle Quigley (Vice Chair), Justin Slack (Chair), and Tom Schenk. Superintendent Howard King, Principal Tiffany Clouse and Athletic Director Brook Ferderer are school personnel anticipated to attend.

According to the agenda, the board will review and approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on June 26, 2024.

They will also approve the July 2024 accounts payable and payroll, which include significant expenditures: General Fund BMO: $2,264.91; ASB BMO: $0; General Fund 1st Run: $8,641.81; General Fund Last Run: $64,717.84; ASB: $0; Payroll: $214,094.98.

The board will receive various reports from the ASB Student Representative, Athletic Director Brook Ferderer, Principal Tiffany Clouse, and Superintendent Howard King.

Principal Clouse is also expected to discuss new copy machines and upcoming policy changes. At the same time, Superintendent King will provide updates on summer activities and plans for a board retreat.

Key new business items will include the discussion and approval of Resolution No. 02-24 concerning the 2024-2025 Harrington School District Budget.

The board will also conduct the first reading of several policies and procedures from the 2000 and 1000 series, including policies on high school equivalency certificates, community service, and the superintendent’s evaluation. The board is expected to discuss and approve these policies in upcoming meetings.
