Odessa voters supporting levy

ODESSA — Voters here have approved Proposition No. 1, a measure to increase funding for the Police Department, during the primary election Tuesday, Aug. 6.

A preliminary county shows the proposition received 103 votes in favor (58.86%) and 72 votes against (41.14%).

The measure authorizes a levy lid lift to raise the 2025 property tax rate from the current approximate rate of $2.55 per $1,000 of assessed value to $3.375 per $1,000 of assessed value.

This increase is expected to generate approximately $40,000 annually to fund the Odessa Police Department and law enforcement services.

The additional funds will enhance the local police department, including hiring additional officers and improving staffing.

The Town Council's Resolution No. 2024-08, which outlines the use of the levy funds, aims to ensure continued and improved law enforcement services for the community.

The levy will begin in 2025 and is designed to provide a permanent funding source for the Odessa Police Department, addressing the need for additional resources and support.
