Voters backing fire district measures

DAVENPORT — Voters approved two propositions for local fire districts during the primary election Tuesday, August 6.

In Lincoln County Fire District No. 5, Proposition No. 1 passed with 325 votes in favor (72.22%) and 125 votes against (27.78%).

This measure authorizes the district to set its regular property tax levy at $1.00 per $1,000 of assessed value for 2024, to be collected in 2025.

The funds will be used to maintain and improve fire protection and emergency medical services, replace apparatus and equipment, and ensure firefighter safety.

In Fire District No. 8, Proposition No. 1 was approved with 17 votes (89.47%) versus 2 votes (10.53%) against.

This proposition allows the district to establish a property tax levy of up to $1.25 per $1,000 of assessed value for 2024, with a 5% annual growth factor for the following five years.

The increase aims to help the district keep pace with rising costs and growing community needs, ensuring continued effective fire protection and emergency medical services.

Both measures will provide funding to support the districts’ operations and maintain levels of service.
