Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

Grateful farewell to Lincoln County

As I prepare to embark on my final semester at University of Idaho, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had here at the Record-Times over the last month.

Though my temporary time covering news here has been brief, it has been filled with discovery, growth and unexpected joy. With each issue, my name filled the pages alongside the stories that have captured the essence of this remarkable place and its people.

Stepping into the role of editor and reporter albeit temporary, I knew I had big shoes to fill. Drew Lawson left behind a legacy of excellence and dedication that set a high bar to clear.

Yet, despite the challenge, the warmth and support from the community made it a truly rewarding experience. From the quiet charm of Reardan, the welcoming spirit of Odessa and the hub of activity in Davenport, I have been embraced with open arms.

One of my greatest joys has been introducing my puppy, Winnie, to this wonderful county. She has become quite the fan of the local park in Davenport, and her boundless energy and enthusiasm perfectly mirror the vibrant spirit of the community. It’s been heartwarming to see her and myself so quickly feel at home here.

As I head back to school to complete my degree, I carry with me cherished memories and a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a special place. While in college, I’ll also return to a part-time reporter role in Colfax at the Whitman County Gazette. So, you’ll likely see my stories and photos from time to time, as the Gazette is a sister newspaper to the Record-Times.

My hope is to return after graduation and continue to contribute to the stories that define Lincoln County.

The connections I’ve made and the experiences I’ve had here will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me so warmly and supported me throughout this short, but impactful journey. It has been an honor to serve as your temporary reporter, and I look forward to the day when I can once again share in the vibrant life of this incredible community.

And rest assured, the search continues for a permanent reporter and editor at the Record-Times. In the meantime, if you have news and photos to share, Kellie Wilkie will still be at our office here to help you out. Give her a call at 509-725-0101.
