Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT — Lincoln County Commissioners on Saturday presented the Commissioner Award Buckle to two local youth who exemplify what the Lincoln County Fair is all about.
This year’s award winners are Kailyn Dafler of Harrington and Levi Wilson of Almira.
The awards were presented by Commissioner Jo M. Gilchrist.
Dafler is in her first year as a Harrington FFA member; its also her first year showing livestock.
“She decided to jump in with both feet and start off with a market steer, which is a lot of work,” Gilchrist said in an email.
She purchased the steer from her grandfather’s ranch in Mohler.
“Thursday at the fair was her first time showing,” Gilchrist said. “She was a bundle of nerves, but when it came time to show on Friday, she had her nerves under control and actually had fun showing her steer in a Fitting and Showing Class.”
Gilchrist said Dafler came “out of the ring with a huge smile on her face.”
Gilchrist congratulated Dafler on the buckle award.
“Wear it with pride,” she said. “You are very deserving of it.”
Wilson received the award after Gilchrist spotted him helping other Almira 4-H members complete their chores.
“He immediately started a conversation with me and invited me across the barn to meet his market lamb,” Gilchrist said. “He jumped in the pen, gave his lamb a nice hug, and told me all about his project. He is quick to help any of his fellow 4-H members, always has a big smile on his face, and gives 100% effort in all he does.
Gilchrist said Wilson has a “heart of gold” and is “very deserving” of the award.
