Davenport, Reardan run in Highlander

Local schools amid field at Shadle Park

SPOKANE - Gorilla seniors finished eighth in team scoring at the Highlander Invitational at Shadle Park High School on Saturday, Sept. 14.

In the senior boys 2.5-mile race, Davenport finished with 97 team points en route to eighth place. Lincoln County rival, Reardan High School, finished 15th with 127 points.

Walla Walla won the senior title with a low 18 points.

Senior Tommy Furman paced the Gorilla seniors with a time of 14:25.10, finishing 19th out of more than 100 runners.

Davenport didn't have any boys competing in the junior race, but Josie Wynecoop ran in the junior girls race. She finished 20th with a time of 16:56.50.

No Davenport runners were in the sophomore race.

In the freshmen event, the Davenport boys finished 17th as a team with 210 points. Reardan freshmen were 20th overall with 270 points.

Mead won the freshman title with a team low of 15 points.

The fastest Davenport freshman was Alex Wesselius, who finished 80th in 17:09.50.

The event also included a one-mile middle school race.

Reardan finished 9th with 97 points and Davenport 12th with 142 in the boys division.

In the girls middle school division, Davenport finished sixth with a score of 75 points and Reardan was eighth with 81.

Davenport's fastest middle schoolers are seventh-grader Jackson Henry, 31st in the boys division in 6:21.80; and seventh-grader Addy O'Connell, 17th in 6:50.00.

Reardan

The Screaming Eagles' fastest runner - and the fastest from Lincoln County - was senior Gabe Branstetter, who finished seventh in a time of 13:32.90.

The Reardan boys finished 20th overall in the sophomore division, as well, with a score of 277 points.

Maveric Sobotta paced the Reardan sophomores with a time of 15:17.40, finishing 44th.

Remington Robson was Reardan's fastest runner in the boys freshman race. He finished 97th with a time of 17:47.70.

Reardan also had several middle school entries.

In the boys middle school race, eighth-grader Simon Sobotta paced the Screaming Eagles with a time of 6:29.10, good enough for 41st place.

In the girls middle school division, Reardan finished eighth as a team with 81 points.

Journie Sobotta, a sixth-grader, posted the fastest time for the Screaming Eagles, finishing 19th in 6:56.50.
