Odessa Memorial wins bed race

Class of 2026 finishes in second-place

ODESSA - The Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center bed race team took home the trophy for first place Thursday night, Sept. 19.

The bed racers were among the first two events to open the 2024 Deutchesfest celebration downtown.

Bed racers sped down Division Street, stopping for a quick game of water pong before heading to the finish line at First Street, in front of the Lincoln County Record-Times office.

Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center's winning team included Kennedy Boyes, Nick Kelly, Austin Reyes, Gavin Elder and Andy Lumsden.

The hospital team opened its trophy run by topping the Odessa High School sophomore class of 2027.

The sophomore team consisted of Dominic Hicks, Nathaniel Hicks, Izaak Schmierer, Micah and Katie Mae Williams.

After posting one of the fastest two times, from among four heats, Odessa Memorial advanced to the finals.

Meanwhile, the Class of 2026 at Odessa High School was making its way to the finals, first by knocking off the freshman Class of 2028.

The junior team included Troy Hardung, Aiden Schmierer, Hudson Watson, Lexi Eden and Miller Stout. The freshman team featured Kendyll Rosman, Skyler Iksic, Dylan Friesen, Koter Wtson and Cannon Roberson.

The juniors posted the other top time in the block-long bed race to reach the finals.

But the juniors weren't fast enough to top Odessa Memorial.

In other heats, the Sigma Chi fraternity team from University of Idaho outpaced the Class of 2025 from Odessa High School to win the first heat.

Sigma Chi racers included Tim DeWulf, Jaedon Shepard, D.J. Myers, Drew Carter and Max Wolf. The Class of 2025 featured Bo Walter, Casen Watson, tucker Wlater, Mackenzie Lutz and Tucker Walter.

The team of Leffel, Otis and Warwick faced off with the McGuire, DeWulf, Kragt and Johnson team in heat No. 2.

The Leffel, Otis and Warwick team featured Jared King, Cade Weber, Justin Hunt, Corbyn Neilsen and Breezie Sheridan.

The McGuire, DeWulf, Kragt and Johnson team included John Kragt, Matthew Johnson, Mark DeWulf, Jacob Montgomery and Michelle DeChand.
