Cardinals rally past Gorillas

Medical Lake scores last 21 points

MEDICAL LAKE - The Cardinals got a pair of touchdown passes from Aiden Suddeth and used a 14-point third quarter to pull away from Davenport, 36-16, on Sept. 21.

Suddeth connected with Dakotah Phillips for an 80-yard scoring play in the first quarter and Cruz Gomez followed with a 36-yard run in the second quarter to stake the Cardinals (1-2) to a 14-6 lead at the break.

After the Gorillas (0-3) took a 16-14 lead early in the third quarter, touchdowns from Cylas Puzycki, a 3-yard run, and a Suddeth 21-yard pass to Gomez took back momentum with the start of a 22-8 run by Medical Lake.

Phillips capped scoring with his 27-yard win in the fourth quarter.

Brock Gustaveson scored on a 3-yard run for Davenport and Beau Copenhaver's 14-yard pass to Caige Colbert accounted for the Gorillas' scoring.

Suddeth used his passes sparingly with two completions in four passes for 101 yards. Puzycki had 30 carries for 142 yards.

This Friday, the Gorillas travel to Colfax (2-1) to take on the Bulldogs.

Colfax comes into the game off a 35-13 loss to undefeated Asotin, which is currently ranked No. 9 in state 2B football in the AP poll.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
