Girls soccer teams at home and on road
DAVENPORT – Glenna Soliday, Charlotte Soliday, Kenley Hille and Hayley Suttenfield each scored goals in the Gorillas 6-0 win over rival Reardan in a soccer matchup Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Because of Davenport's relentless attack on offense, the first half was played in front of the Screaming Eagles' goal. Junior Glenna Soliday kicked off the scoring five minutes into the game when she rifled a shot at the Reardan goalkeeper. The ball hit the goalie's hands and dribbled across the line and into the net. Her second goal came eight minutes later on a similar shot into the corner of the net.
With 18 minutes left in the half, Glenna Soliday centered the ball from the right sideline to freshman Kenley Hille who was positioned in front of the Reardan goal. Hille kicked the ball into the net to put the Gorillas up 3-0.
Freshman Charlotte Soliday got into the scoring column with 10 minutes left in the half when she fired the ball past the Reardan goalie's outstretched arms from 20 yards out.
Minutes later, eighth grader Hayley Suttenfield scored her first Gorilla goal after fighting for a loose ball in front of the Reardan net. She punched it in from five yards out to give Davenport a 5-0 lead.
Reardan fought hard in the second half, getting several shots on the Davenport goal. The Screaming Eagles gave up their final score with three minutes left when Charlotte Soliday beat the Reardan goalie one-on-one from 15 yards to score her second goal of the game.
Davenport won the game 6-0.
"I am super excited," Suttenfield said. "We worked together and communicated well. I'm especially proud of my sister Harper who fought for the ball and wasn't afraid to go for it."
"I've been wanting and working hard to score a goal, and I finally got it," she said.
Davenport head coach Monte Soliday was pleased with his team's effort.
"I thought we had a really good first half; pretty crisp and clean," he said. "We passed well, and the girls demonstrated a lot of the things we've been working on. It was huge that we had four different scorers. It was especially nice to see a freshman and an eighth grader with their first goals."
Coach Soliday acknowledged the challenge his team faced defending Reardan's Noelle Raczykowski.
"She does such a great job using her feet that we put a mark on her and tried to force her into passing the ball," she said.
With the win, Davenport improved to 3-0 on the season. Reardan dropped to 2-2.
The Gorillas next game is Thursday, Sept 26, at Newport followed by a game at Lakeside Friday, Sept. 27.
The Screaming Eagles play at home against Kettle Falls on Thursday, Sept. 26, and at Newport, Tuesday, Oct. 1.
