Tatum and Selah Hupp anchor team

DAVENPORT – After defeating Colfax and Northwest Christian at the Sheridan Welch Crossover Classic over the weekend, the Gorillas' volleyball team made quick work of St. George's Tuesday, Oct. 1, winning the match 25-17, 25-18, 25-10.

Astraya Sosa and Faith Bell fueled the Dragons' offense with 27 assists to heavy-hitters Chloe Hammond, Selah Hupp and Naomi Rainwater who had 12, seven and five kills, respectively.

Tatum Hupp and Selah Hupp anchored the Gorillas' defense with 11 and 10 digs.

"Tonight wasn't our best game of the season," Selah Hupp said. "Our energy was down and our communication was poor, but we started to play better in the third set."

Davenport head coach Jill Morrison said that her team played outstanding volleyball over the weekend in the Crossover Classic, but their effort against St. George's fell short of her expectations.

"A win is always nice, but we have work to do before our next game," she said

The win improved Davenport's record to 6-2. St. George's dropped to 0-8.

The Gorillas next game is Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Northwest Christian.
