COLFAX — A Reardan boy set the pace Tuesday, Oct. 1, for a league cross country meet at the Colfax Country Club.
Senior Gabe Branstetter of Reardan won the boys 5,000-meter by a half-second.
He outpaced Garfield-Palouse senior Brendan Snekvik, who was second in 17:01.80. Snekvik’s twin, senior Kieran Snekvik, was third in a time of 17:21.60.
Reardan senior Jakari Singleton was fourth overall with a time of 17:43.20.
As a team, Reardan finished third with 68 team points; Garfield-Palouse won with a team low score of 42.
Freeman, which only dropped into the Class 2B ranks this season, finished second with 64 team points.
Other Reardan runners breaking into the Top 50 included sophomore Maveric Sobotta, 16th, in 19:41.90; senior Joey Matusik, 19th, in 20:05.20; freshman Remington Robson, 37th in 22:22.50; freshman Carmelo Green, 47th, in 23:02.00; and junior Braden Durbin, 50th, in 23:09.60.
The Screaming Eagles didn’t have enough girls in the field for a team score.
However, senior Hailey Fry finished 16th in the girls division with a time of 25:10.10; and freshman Lily Witmer was 27th in a time of 27:44.50.
In other Reardan cross country reports from the meet, the middle school boys and girls teams both won the division titles over a 1.5-mile course.
Reardan boys won with a team low score of 33; the Screaming Eagle girls won their division with 31 points.
This Saturday, Oct. 5, both the Reardan and Davenport cross country teams will travel to Airway Heights to compete in the seventh annual Battle for the 509 at the Spokane Polo Grounds, 7714 W. Sunset Highway.
Middle school races start at 8:45 a.m. Races continue throughout the day, with the fastest runners last.
