Almira man charged with trying to steal car

Arraignment scheduled for Nov. 5

ALMIRA — A local man will appear in court on Nov. 5 to answer a vehicle theft charge.

Billy Jack Bragg, 27, of Almira, has been issued a court summons to answer to the charge of attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

Bragg is scheduled to appear in Lincoln County Superior Court in Davenport at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5.

He was arrested Oct. 10 at his mother’s house at 115 N. Fifth St., Almira

In a probable cause statement dated Oct. 10, Bragg allegedly attempted to steal a car from a driveway at 124 S. Seventh St.

Records show resident Noreen Thompson observed an unknown man with a tattoo by his eye in her car. When the man realized he had been caught, he got out of the car, tried to shake her hand and walked away.

A neighbor was able to identify the suspect’s mother, Coastal Alaska, who when contacted by law enforcement, said the description fit her son, Bragg.

Deputies went to Alaska’s house and knocked on the door, records show. Bragg exited and admitted to deputies that they were at his mother’s home because “he’d tried to seal a car earlier.”

Bragg was arrested and taken go the Lincoln County Jail; he was released Oct. 12.
