Rathdrum, Idaho, man arraigned in Wilbur burglary

WILBUR — A Rathdrum, Idaho, man was arraigned Oct. 29 in Lincoln County Superior Court on multiple charges stemming from a burglary.

Jacob Micheal Hewitt, 31, of Rathdrum will be tried for first-degree theft, residential burglary and two counts of theft of a firearm at 9 a.m. Dec. 18. A readiness hearing is scheduled for Nov. 26.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on Sept. 22, court records show. At the time, he was serving time in the Washington Corrections Center-Receiving/Diagnostic Center in Spokane.

He was transported to Davenport and arrested on the new charges on Oct. 28. His bail was set at $50,000.

The case began Feb. 19, 2023, after Donald McIalwain called 911 to report the burglary of his 17049 E. Columbia View Road home and theft of multiple items.

Deputies met with the victim, who identified the stolen items, records show. He also noted that thousands of dollars had been stolen too, as he had won $4,700 at Northern Quest in Airway Heights on Feb. 11, 2023, $14,000 at 12 Tribes Casino in Manson in the next couple days, as well as another $4,900 at Northern Question.

Through photographs of vehicles obtained from neighbors, authorities were able to track the case to Hewitt.

He was arrested and booked into jail on $40,000 bail.

Court records show investigators also want to talk to Gunnar Dougherty, 32, of Cheney, after obtaining evidence he was also present in McIalwain’s home at the time of the burglary.
