100 years ago

Tuesday’s election developed as a republican landslide. President Coolidge won 382 electoral votes and republicans will have control over the new congress. Roland Hartley will be the Governor after receiving 210,621 votes.

A large gathering of community members gathered for the funeral of Robert Telford. Telford was born in Scotland in 1843 and purchased a farm near Rocklyn in 1886. He was survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters.

75 years ago

Nearly 200 miles of rural phone lines is nearing completion and crews are currently engaged in installing dial telephones in area homes. Dial telephones will be operational in the Odessa area on December 19.

Basketball practice has started in Davenport but it seems that some of the fellas are having trouble transitioning from football. Coach Rook expects to get the boys to stop clipping and tackling within a week or two..

50 years ago

Three Edwall men were arrested and charged with grand larceny for rustling cattle from the Scott Barr ranch. The suspects were found to be killing and butchering the cows roadside. The men all had bond set at $3,000 each by Judge Richard Ennis.

Davenport police are investigating 3 robberies that happened the other night. The Phillips 66 station, Cliff Oligher’s service station and a residence were all burglarized. No trace of the robber was found although a description was given by an attendant at the Phillips 66 station.

Davenport High School Volleyball team is headed to state as the number 1 entry from the District. Coach Pete Schweiger says his team is ready to play but needs to relax and just play the game. The Lady Gorillas finished last season third in the state.

Harrington’s gymnasium is getting a new sound system. This new system will replace the 15 year old system. Don Timm retiring school board member put his yearly stipend into this project. The $12,000 bid won the job for Hoffman Music.

A new WSU Extension office livestock specialist has been hired. Dr Paul Kuber will take over for the retired Tom Platt. His mission will be to provide leadership for Extension programs and applied research in areas of livestock production.

“An outbreak of Ebola virus is unlikely to occur in Washington” according to Ed Dzedzy Lincoln County Public Health Administrator. All Lincoln County health care facilities are working with the Public Health Department to ensure their staff is trained and proper precautions are taken.
