Local youth end season undefeated
SPOKANE VALLEY – Reardan Elementary School's third- and fourth-grade football team defeated the G-Men 16-0 Saturday, Nov. 4, at University High School to win the Inland Northwest Youth Football Conference championship. The victory capped a 10-0 season.
In the championship game, Micah Kasper and Weston Abrahamson both scored touchdowns and Asher Hough kicked two points after touchdown. Reardan was the only team outside of Spokane that played in the 10 team conference.
It was also the smallest school to win the championship.
"Our team is one big unit," head coach Joshua Cobb said. "Our blocking and tackling was phenomenal, and our success this season was a group effort."
Cobb said that being the smallest school in the conference was a challenge that his team embraced.
"We had a special toughness on our team," he said. "Our kids developed an underdog mentality."
Weston Abrahamson said the key to the Screaming Eagles' success was comradery amongst his teammates and coaches.
"We had some downs and ups this season, but we always encouraged each other and picked each other up," he said. "Every single game we gave it our all and had fun. After the game we would celebrate with good sportsmanship and a happy win. We always had hope and spirit in our hearts."
Mendoza also thought the Screaming Eagle's positive attitude carried them to their championship.
"We all had sportsmanship and worked together and never gave up," he said. "Our coaches called the right plays and did a good job. We all had heart."
The boys who played on the team were Moq Abrahamson, CJ Abrahamson, Ethan Abrahamson, Weston Abrahamson, Dayson Abrahamson, Henry Eyler, Hudsen Axtell, Henry Cobb, Aiden Colvin, Nashton Hahn, Asher Hough, Micah Kasper, Tucker McCain, Oran Mendoza, Bleau Oxtien, Colton Sartin, Desmond Seyler Jr, and Wyatt Titchenal.
