DAVENPORT - The Davenport Lions Club has named the winners of its 2024 Peace Poster Contest, themed "Peace Without Limits," showcasing the artistic talents of local middle school students.
Eighth-grader Hayley Suttenfield, daughter of Colby and Ellie Suttenfield, earned first place for her entry. Her poster featured a dove symbolizing peace, spreading harmony to nations represented by a tree adorned with flags, with the world as its backdrop.
"Peace should be given to all nations in the world. I believe my poster represents this year's theme," said Suttenfield.
The contest, open to 7th and 8th graders, attracted 20 entries this year. Visual arts teacher Kathleen Posey praised the high quality of submissions, noting that Hayley's artwork stood out due to her commitment and ability to convey the theme visually.
"Her talent and the time spent really made her poster shine," Posey said.
Hayley's poster will advance to district-level competition, with the potential to compete internationally.
The Davenport Lions Club is excited to cheer her on as her artwork continues to the next stages.
Second place went to Kallie Halme, and Shanae Collins secured third place.
All winners were honored for their creative efforts in promoting peace through art.
