Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT - The Lincoln County Fairgrounds came alive with holiday cheer as the Cottonwood Redhatters hosted their Hometown Christmas at the venue on Sunday, Dec. 1.
The annual event, a beloved tradition in the community for over 30 years, marked the start of the Christmas season with festive activities and a strong turnout.
"I love the community spirit," said Tamera Gunning, a member of the Cottonwood Redhatters. "The way we all come together and have a wonderful evening after Thanksgiving and before Christmas is so special. We have Santa come and visit for photos, and everything here is by donation."
This year's event included carnival-style games, a raffle, and a visit from Santa Claus. Families and children gathered to enjoy the festivities, with all proceeds from the event supporting future community activities.
"We're raffling seven baskets, and all the goods were donated," Gunning said. "The raffle and everything else is by donation. It's a great way to bring everyone together and give back to the community."
The move to the Lincoln County Fairgrounds was a strategic decision by the Cottonwood Redhatters to accommodate a larger crowd and expand the event's offerings.
"This is the first year we did it at the fairgrounds, and I think that had a greater draw," Gunning said. "The memorial hall is beautiful, but it's not big enough. The fairgrounds gave us more opportunity."
Proceeds from the event will be reinvested into the community. The Cottonwood Redhatters plan to use the funds to host free events such as movie nights and hot dog dinners in the park.
"We want to do more community service, and that is what we are about," Gunning said.
Gunning and her 12-year-old granddaughter, Tarynn, of Kennewick, sold raffle tickets at the door. Baskets valued at up to $500 were among the highlights of the evening.
