Screaming Eagles stop Broncos, 93-20
REARDAN – Six players scored in double figures as the Screaming Eagles overwhelmed Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 93-20 in their 2BNE season opener Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The Screaming Eagles dug their talons into the Broncos from the very start and never let go. Senior Rysen Soliday started Reardan's scoring spree with a rare four point play in the opening minutes. The team's hustle and smothering defense kept LRS on its heels as they outscored the Broncos 26-2 in the first quarter.
By the end of the half, nine Reardan players scored as the Screaming Eagles built their lead to 54-10.
In the second half, Reardan's lead grew as head coach Jake Green substituted freely. After three quarters, his team led 79-15, enroute to the 93-20 shellacking.
Justin Vaughn connected on five 3-point shots to lead all scorers with 17 points. Fred Frolov scored 16 points and led Reardan with 12 rebounds. Soliday scored 15 points followed by Maveric Sobotta with 11. Sobotta also led his team in steals with six. Jakari Singleton and Evan Krupke each scored 10 points. Zander Thornton, Hunter Flaa, Bryson Flaa and Blake Wynecoop scored six, four, two and two points, respectively.
Brody Boness led LRS in scoring with 10 points.
"We've been practicing hard," Soliday said. "It was good to get our first outing because we're tired of beating up on each other. It really helps to have Jakari's intensity and hype after he missed last season due to injury. Our entire team has a lot of energy this year."
Green was pleased with the progress his team has made.
"Compared to last year our boys are much further ahead," he said. "They are one year older, smarter, wiser, bigger, stronger and faster. Preston Wynne, our new assistant coach is also upping their level of play. The boys played well tonight but there are a lot of things we can do to get better. We've really got a good group this year."
The Screaming Eagles travel to Spangle to play Liberty on Friday, Dec. 6 and then to Brewster Tuesday, Dec. 10.
