Blood drive and flu shot fundraiser

Event set for December 19 at Smith Gym

REARDAN — Residents are invited to care for their health and support their community by attending a flu shot clinic and blood drive on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Smith Gym.

The flu shot clinic, organized by Lincoln County Public Health, will take place at the gym’s front entrance from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Flu vaccinations are available for residents, with proceeds benefiting the Reardan School District.

A blood drive, hosted in partnership with Vitalant, will also be held from 12:45 to 5:45 p.m. Appointments remain available for those interested in donating blood.

Reardan school nurse Shannon Landt said the school partnered with Vitalant for the 2024 school year to achieve a STEM grant goal that directly supports students.

“We have a goal to meet 80 usable units from our district, and we signed up for a grant. We are only 13 units away from meeting our goal. We have done 67 units in 2024,” Landt said.

The flu shot clinic is a result of surplus vaccinations available after the first community flu shot event concluded in October, according to Landt.

“I am really proud of our kids. It has been really fun to teach our kids about how they can save lives and make a difference by this one small gesture. It is cool to have them involved,” Landt added.

Residents can donate blood and receive a flu shot on the same day.
