Dachshund named office mascot
DAVENPORT - If a new friendly face with a miniature dachshund is spotted in tow, chances are she's already planning the next front-page headline.
Olivia Harnack, 22, of Harrington, has been named the new managing editor of the Lincoln County Record-Times.
Harnack, a recent University of Idaho graduate with a bachelor of science in digital filmmaking, returns to Lincoln County to take on the role.
She previously filled in over the summer after former managing editor Drew Lawson moved to the Vancouver area.
She has also served as a reporter at the Whitman County Gazette, the state's oldest newspaper, for the last three years.
"It's good to have an experienced journalist back in Lincoln County," Free Press Publishing owner/publisher Roger Harnack said. "Her photography skills will be a bonus, as well."
She recently moved into a home in Harrington with her miniature dachshund puppy, Winnie.
"I'm excited to be back and working in a community that feels like home," Harnack said. "I missed the county and the people here. I'm looking forward to reconnecting and building new relationships."
Harnack will split her time between the Record-Times offices in Davenport and Odessa. She will be available in the Davenport office, 1150 Morgan St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays
She will work out of the Odessa office, 1 W. First Ave., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays
"I want to welcome the community to stop by anytime," Harnack said. "Whether it's to share a story idea, ask questions, or just say hello, my door is always open."
Harnack also serves in the Army National Guard. Additionally, she is preparing to begin her master's degree in digital creation, marketing and journalism.
Harnack brings a combination of storytelling experience and a deep appreciation for Lincoln County, which she described as "a place full of heart and history."
She encourages residents to reach out as she begins her new role.
Harnack can be reached via email at therecord@odessaoffice.com.
