Gorillas win 'Battle for the Belt'

Davenport wins dual meet, 66-12

DAVENPORT – In Winterfest's first annual "Battle for the Belt," the Gorillas' wrestling team defeated Reardan 66-12 giving them the right to display the championship belt in their trophy case until Winterfest 2025. The wrestling meet was one of many competitions between the schools during the week-long event. At the conclusion of Winterfest, the "Golden Plunger" will be awarded to the school that tallied the most points in the various competitions.

Davenport had more athletes on its roster than Reardan, which meant nine matches were uncontested, all of which the Gorillas won by forfeit.

In head-to-head competition, Reardan and Davenport each won two matches.

At 126 pounds, Reardan's Joey Matusik pinned Alex Wesselius.

In the 138 pound weight class, the Gorillas' Wayland Holmberg pinned Alex Matusik.

At 144 pounds, the Screaming Eagles' Owen Pendell pinned Jaden Ebert.

At 150 pounds, Davenport's Malachi Hoff pinned Landon Smith.

In non-scoring exhibition matches, Reardan's Joey Matusik, Alex Matusik, Owen Pendell, and Davenport's Gabriel Carey all came out victorious.
