100 years ago
• A total of 31 miles of power line have been built so far in the Washington Water Power project from Long Lake to Stratford. Crews are working in four different areas of the project.
• A Christmas program was given by pupils of the Rocklyn school last Friday evening. The school is closed this week for the Christmas holiday.
• The Lincoln County Sheriffs force put first run moonshine in their radiators during the recent cold snap. Nothing froze but the moonshine did eat the metal out of the radiators.
75 years ago
• The newly opened Odessa Hospital office is a busy place. Bids have been sent out for equipment and instruments. Manager Lucille Bloom has been taking applications for nurses and nurses aides.
• According to an article in Readers Digest, President Truman’s administration spent 191 Billion from 1946 to 1949. Up until 1940 all President’s combined spent 179 Billion.
• The Davenport School District will ask for a $78,800 levy in February. This money will be used to complete the grade school facilities and grounds, remodeling the old grade school facilities and the remainder to be put into a building fund.

• The Grange Supply has paid $67,000 back to patrons in 1974. This money pumped back into the economy is expected to generate $400,000 gross business in the area.
• Davenport Chief of Police Tom Edwards would very much like the City to hire a second law enforcement officer. The biggest issue is the budget. The City has applied for grants to help fund the hiring of a second officer.
• A Drug Training Center program for folks in Lincoln county. Presenter Dennis Payne encouraged attendees to look at drugs as a human problem rather than a chemical one. The event was attended by 185 people.

• With the recent passage of Initiative 695 County Auditor Shelly Johnston warms citizens to expect long lines in January and encourages drivers to mail in their license renewals.
• A mobile home on North Laurel St. in Reardan was recently destroyed by fire. The house was not occupied at the time of the fire due to ongoing renovations.
• The Town of Odessa is ready for Y2K. Businesses have plans for protecting their computer systems including the Odessa Record. The local police department will be patrolling on New Year’s Eve more for alcohol related issues but is prepared.

• More than $2.8 million in federal funding has been designated for replacement of the Miles-Creston road bridge. The county will need to come up with a 20% match.
• The recent Davenport City Council meeting lasted all of 5 minutes. Long enough to hear a couple of committee reports, approve the payment of some bills and approve a 3% increase in utility charges beginning in 2015.
• A birthday celebration was recently held for the 100th birthday of Bill Floyd of Harrington. Bill moved his family to Harrington in 1949 and was the owner of Harrington Machinery.
