Flu bug doesn't stop Screaming Eagles

REARDAN – After defeating Chewelah 72-8 the previous night, head colds and the flu bug hit the Screaming Eagles' girls. Though not being at the top of their game, Reardan continued its winning ways, this time beating Kettle Falls 57-24 Friday, Dec. 20. Tenice Waters scored 15 points in the win.

In the first half, Tenice Waters scored eight points, but it was her five steals that stifled the Bulldogs' attempts to establish their offense. Reardan held a halftime advantage of 24-12.

"We came out lackadaisical and lacked energy in the first half," Reardan head coach Bob Swannack said. "With some girls being sick, it took us two quarters to realize that if we were going to play, we may as well give everything we have in the second half."

And that they did. To start the half the Screaming Eagles scored 18 straight points to show Kettle Falls why they were 5-0 against NE2B competition. After its scoring run, Reardan's lead stretched to 42-12, before ending the third quarter with a 50-14 lead.

In the second half, Swannack substituted freely as Reardan cruised to the 57-24 win.

"After a great halftime talk the girls bought in and brought much needed energy that sealed the deal," Swannack said. "Our bench gave us incredible minutes. Eight of our ten girls hit the scoring column and provided valuable contributions."

Tenice Waters ended the game with 15 points, seven steals and a blocked shot. Chasyn Waters scored 12 points followed by Isabella Abrahamson, Rylynn Green and Mackenzie Bjornberg who each scored six points. Raegan Soliday scored five points and Emersen Sprecher scored four points and led her team with eight rebounds. Lillie Whitman completed the scoring with her 3-point basket.

Annaka Edwards scored eight points for Kettle Falls.

"In the first half we came out with no energy," Chasyn Waters said. "At halftime coach Swannack said that everyone else's energy shouldn't define our energy. So we brought it up in the third which helped us double our points and get our bench players some time. We need to work on our communication as we continue to improve."

The win improved Reardan to 6-0 in NE2B play. Kettle Falls dropped to 3-4.

The Screaming Eagles' next game will be against Lake Roosevelt in the Reardan Lions Club Christmas Tournament Friday, Dec. 27 at 5:00 p.m.
