Cooper case continued final time

Albertson say's its been long enough

DAVENPORT - The case of Joseph Lee Cooper Sr., 43, was continued Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Lincoln County Superior Court for the final time.

A readiness hearing is set for March 11, with the trial scheduled for April 2.

"I won't object to this continuance, but it must be the last one. Mr. Cooper has been in jail for the last year waiting for this to happen," Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney Ty Albertson said during the hearing.

Cooper Sr. was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen 1975 Dodge Power Wagon through Davenport city limits and into a wheat field.

He faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and attempting to elude police.

According to police records, the chase began after dispatch reported a stolen vehicle heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 2 near Almira.

Deputies pursued the vehicle as it sped through Davenport streets, reached 65 mph on Morgan Street, and continued onto rural roads and fields before Cooper Sr. was detained north of U.S. Highway 2 just east of Jannett Road.

Cooper Sr. remains in custody at Lincoln County Jail.

This continuance is expected to be the final delay in the case.
