HARRINGTON - Twenty-six residents gathered at the Harrington School Multipurpose Room on Saturday, Jan. 25, to kick off "Harrington Heart & Soul," a community development initiative funded by a grant from the Innovia Foundation.
The meeting, led by Brent Baker, a certified Community Heart & Soul™ coach from Sandpoint, Idaho, introduced participants to the project's first phase, known as "Imagine."
This phase, which typically spans two to three months, focuses on gathering volunteers, identifying shared goals, and building awareness throughout the community.
During the session, attendees participated in exercises to foster collaboration and outline collective hopes for Harrington's future.
One of the key tasks for the group will be forming a volunteer team reflective of the entire community. With the support of a paid Project Coordinator, the team will work to understand who lives, works, and plays in Harrington while developing a communication plan to engage all residents.
Next steps include setting meeting schedules for the core volunteer team, hiring the Project Coordinator, and finalizing plans to complete the "Imagine" phase by mid-March.
Kathi Matthews, a member of Harrington Heart & Soul, expressed excitement about the project's momentum.
"It's amazing to already see some of the benefits of Community Heart & Soul™ begin to bubble up," Matthews said. "To have 28 people at our meeting earlier this month and 26 at this one is just an incredible turnout. During one of the exercises, the group identified 'increased volunteerism and community involvement' as one of its primary hopes for the future. It looks like that is a very reasonable expectation at this point."
The Harrington Heart & Soul project aims to strengthen community ties and establish a vision for the town's future based on the values and aspirations of its residents.
