Mohler man charged with unlawful firearm possession

MOHLER — A 67-year-old man accused of unlawfully possessing a firearm following a domestic dispute pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Monday, January 15.

Wesley Rollon Brown, 67, of Mohler, was arrested on January 13, 2024, after deputies responded to a report of threats made during a conflict involving Brown, his partner Stacy Davis, and her son, Jason Davis.

According to court documents, Jason Davis called 911 at 10:30 a.m. to report that Brown had threatened to kill him.

Deputies were told that the conflict began when Jason, who had reportedly been kicked out from the house, would not leave and claimed the living room was his room, according to Brown. Stacy Davis told deputies that an argument escalated between Brown and Jason.

She reported that Brown had antagonized Jason by calling him names and swinging a knife.

Fearing the situation would escalate further, she removed Brown’s gun from the living room.

Deputies determined that Brown has a prior criminal history, including a 2013 fourth-degree assault conviction with a disposition for unlawful possession of firearms.

During his court appearance, Brown’s motion to address personal restraints was approved, allowing him to appear without handcuffs.

He was found to qualify for indigent assistance, and Victoria Iverson was appointed as his attorney.

Brown was released on his own recognizance and ordered to comply with release conditions.

The court set his trial for Tuesday, March 19, at 9 a.m., with a readiness hearing scheduled for Monday, February 25, at 10:30 a.m.

Iverson raised no objections to the state’s omnibus application.
