Soap Lake man killed in crash near George

GEORGE – A single-vehicle crash on Sunday night resulted in the death of a 58-year-old Soap Lake man, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. on State Route 283, about two miles east of George.

A 2021 Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on SR 283 when it left the roadway at the intersection with North Frontage Road West.

The vehicle lost control, rolled, and came to rest in a driveway, officials said.

The driver, identified as James W. Carley, 58, of Soap Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that Carley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles or individuals were involved.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors.

Quincy Towing totaled and removed the vehicle from the scene.

No further details were immediately available by press time.
