DAVENPORT – Clare Lathrop scored 22 points and Addie Schneider scored 17 points to lead the Gorillas’ girls basketball team to a 60-29 win over Kettle Falls Saturday, Jan. 25. It was the Gorillas sixth straight win, improving their record to 15-2.
Kettle Falls came into the game boasting a seven game win streak. The Bulldogs scored the first five points, but Davenport outscored them 25-5 the rest of the quarter, dashing their hopes of winning eight in a row. In the first quarter, Schneider fueled the Gorillas offense with 10 points. She received help from Lathrop, Glenna Soliday and Charlotte Soliday, who combined for the other 15 points.
In the second quarter, six-foot-three Lathrop established herself under the basket, collecting rebounds and scoring points. Her 10 points helped give the Gorillas a 41-15 halftime lead. Davenport stretched its lead to 47-20 after three quarters en route to its 60-29 win.
Lathrop led all scorers with 22 points. She also had eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Schneider scored 17 points and pulled down five rebounds. Glenna Soliday had 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Charlotte Soliday had seven points, two rebounds and five steals and Sawyer Raugust scored two points.
Ella Johnson led Kettle Falls with 12 points.
“Overall, I think we played well,” Davenport head coach Stacia Soliday said. “Clare (Lathrop) looked good. She was strong underneath. As a team we had more offensive rebounds tonight which is something we’ve been stressing.”
The Gorillas improved their overall record to 15-2 and 9-2 in NE2B play. Kettle Falls dropped to 10-5 and 3-5.
