ODESSA - The Odessa Lions Club's annual crab feed was a success, drawing strong community support despite a significant rise in crab prices, according to club president Marlon Schafer.
The event, hosted Friday, Feb. 7, brought supporters from within and outside the community.
"It went really well," Schafer said. "As a fundraiser, it was a little off because crab prices are really high-like 30 to 40% higher than last year. It was well attended. We sold pretty much all of our tickets."
The event, one of the club's largest fundraisers of the year, featured fresh crab sourced directly from the Washington coast.
"We go over, and it's picked up right off the docks the day before the event," Schafer said. "So it is fresh, fresh crab."
Funds raised from the event go toward several community initiatives, including local backpack programs that provide school lunches and supplies for children.
The club also supports Davenport Vision, local parks, and the maintenance of the town cemetery.
"We just go out and do the work, and fortunately, people come out from the community and support us," Schafer said.
The Odessa Lions Club could not announce the funds raised by press time.
