County boys advance to state

ROCKFORD — Wrestlers from Davenport, Reardan, Sprague, and Wilbur-Creston competed in the District 6 Boys Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Freeman High School, with several athletes securing spots for the next stage of postseason competition.

Davenport’s Jacob James earned a third-place finish at 106 lbs., defeating Tysen Anderson of Liberty (Spangle) with a 5-2 decision. Freeman’s Ryder Pedersen claimed 1st place, dominating Michael Winn of Kettle Falls in a 23-11 victory.

At 113 lbs., Freeman’s Quinten Malone placed second after a 17-1 loss to Micah Rocha of Northwest Christian (Colbert) in the finals. Liberty Launch Academy’s Parker Bundy secured 3rd place with a 5-4 victory over Colfax’s Ty Scott, who placed fourth.

Freeman’s Bearret Murphey took 1st place at 120 lbs., earning a 3-0 victory over Jack Molitor of Almira Coulee Hartline. Davenport’s Landyn Murphy competed in the seventh-place match but fell to Freeman’s Chase Schumacher, who finished 7th after securing a fall.

Colfax’s Cooper Phillips triumphed in the 126 lbs. bracket, defeating Davenport’s Wayland Holmberg 11-2 in the finals. Reardan’s Joey Matusik placed fourth, but a loss to Nakoa Rocha of Northwest Christian (Colbert) kept him out of a podium finish.

Reardan’s Alex Matusik dominated the 132 lbs. bracket, securing 1st place with a fall in 2:49 over Tyson Nunley of Newport. Davenport’s Daman Gale faced an injury, preventing him from placing in the 5th-place match.

Davenport’s Malachi Hoff won the 138 lbs. final with a 5-4 victory over Reardan’s Carson Kline. Freeman’s Quincy Paxton finished 5th, defeating Colfax’s Floyd McKeirnan with a 1:27 fall.

At 150 lbs., Liberty (Spangle)’s Maddex Strobel earned 1st place with a 1:06 fall over Samson Kjar of Liberty Launch Academy.

Davenport’s Gabriel Carey secured 5th place after a win by injury default against Gavvin Carter of Newport.

The tournament also featured Colfax and Almira wrestlers, rounding out the competitive field.
