Davenport slayed by the Dragons
SPOKANE VALLEY – After losing to St. George's 74-46 Saturday, Feb. 15, Davenport was eliminated from the District 6 2B Boys Basketball Tournament at West Valley High School. The season ending loss left the Gorillas with an overall record of 8-14 and an NE2B-North record of 7-9.
St. George's controlled the game by using its height advantage to overpower Davenport on the glass, which limited the Gorillas scoring opportunities.
The Gorillas battled St. George's for the first eight minutes of the game. Titus Lathrop and Jacob Furman each made 3-point shots and Bennett Wagner scored three points to keep Davenport within reach of the Dragons, who led 16-13 after the first quarter. At halftime, St. George's led 32-23.
The Dragons went on a 12-2 scoring run to open the third quarter. They outscored the Gorillas 27-8 in the quarter to jump to a 59-31 lead as they cruised to the 74-46 win.
Caige Colbert scored 15 points for the Gorillas followed by Lathrop, who scored 13 points.
Tommy Furman, Wagner and McGuire Knopp scored six, five and four points, respectively. Jacob Furman rounded out the Gorillas' scoring with three points.
Shawn Jones paced the Dragons with 21 points followed by Elden Pierce, who scored 18.
With the win, the Dragons play Kettle Falls in a loser-out game on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
