Screaming Eagles soar with 78 points
SPOKANE VALLEY – Reardan beat Jenkins (Chewelah) 78-19 in its first game of the District 6 2B Boys Basketball Tournament at West Valley High School Thursday, Feb. 13. It was the Screaming Eagles' third win over the Cougars this season. With the win, the Screaming Eagles (20-1) play Feb. 19, against Colfax (20-2) in a clash of 2B titans to earn a trip to the state tournament.
As has been their method of operation this season, Reardan jumped on its opponent and never let up. Before Chewelah knew what hit them, the Screaming Eagles opened a 19-2 lead, which they extended to 49-13 at the half.
In the second half, Reardan outscored Chewelah 29-6 on its way to the 78-19 win. As a team, they made 11 3-point shots in the game.
Zander Thornton had the hot hand for Reardan. He scored 15 points in the second quarter and was high point man for the Screaming Eagles with 20 points. Justin Vaughn sank four 3-point shots and ended the game with 14 points. Jakari Singleton scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds. Fred Frolov and Rysen Soliday scored eight and seven points, respectively. Frolov also had five rebounds. Bryson Flaa scored five points. Karsten Flaa, Maveric Sobotta and Evan Krupke each scored three points and Blake Wynecoop, Hunter Flaa and Levi Collier each scored two points.
"The kids were excited to play today," Reardan head coach Jake Green said. "They came out fast and played hard the entire game. We got good looks at the basket and our shots started to fall. Zander (Thornton) is our tone-setter. When he's locked in everyone else feeds off that. He played a strong game."
