Two in Almira burglary case return to court
DAVENPORT - Two suspects charged in connection with a January burglary in Almira returned to Lincoln County Superior Court for readiness hearings on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Jose Rafael Medina Lomeli, 28, and Delila Ellen Reid, 50, appeared before Judge Adam Walser as their cases move toward trial.
Both face multiple charges stemming from the Jan. 9 burglary, in which firearms, a Liberty safe, household items and a Jeep were stolen from a residence and shop.
Medina Lomeli is charged with residential burglary, motor vehicle theft, three counts of firearm theft and second-degree theft. He previously pleaded not guilty and was granted a $15,000 bail, reduced from the state's initial request of $25,000 due to his lack of convictions.
Reid, of Moses Lake, faces charges of residential burglary and second-degree theft. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment, where the court upheld a $25,000 bail request due to her extensive warrant history.
Reid pleaded guilty in court, making a deal with the state that the theft charge in the second degree be dismissed.
"She was promised just to go and get a washer and dryer," said the defense. "There is evidence to corroborate witness statements. She was an accomplice and she has learned a hard lesson."
Reid was sentenced to nearly 13 months in prison with an additional nearly 13 months in a community-based prison.
"I am truly sorry for what happened. I am accepting responsibility and I will never get into a situation like this again," said Reid.
A restitution hearing will be scheduled for another date.
For Medina Lomeli, his defense asked for a continuance, citing she needed more time to negotiate with the state and her client.
His trial was continued and a new trial date was set for April 16, with a readiness hearing set for March 18.
The case also involves two other suspects, Recardo E. Rocha, 32, Thea Wenz, 27, of Moses Lake.
Both Medina Lomeli and Reid remain scheduled for trial on March 19 at 9 a.m.
