100 years ago

The Odessa Commercial Club purchased 9 lots for $150 to be used for a playground and ball field. The land will be given to the Odessa School District and the board of directors has agreed to mutual use between the city and the school.

Fred Hall was arrested in Spokane last week on a charge of deserting his wife and family who live in Creston. He pled guilty and was sentenced to a year in jail. The sentence was suspended providing the Mr. Hall turn over half of his paycheck to his wife every week.

75 years ago

Cottonwood Creek overflowed it’s bank last weekend due to a combination of spring thaw and a steady downpour of rain. Local law enforcement was on Morgan street encouraging folks to slow down at the intersection of 8th and Morgan where the stream across the highway was a foot deep.

Five Odessa boys plan to be among the nation’s scouts attending the national Boy Scout Camporee at Valley Forge PA. An estimated 150 scouts and leaders from the make the trip.

50 years ago

60 bushels of grain was stolen from a storage tank at Lang station south of Ruff. A lock was sawn off of an inspection door and it appears the grain was shoveled out, most likely into a pickup bed.

Washington Water Power will be increasing the feeder capacity into the Odessa system from the current 4,000 volts to 13,000. Some temporary power outages may occur as the work is being done.

Completion of Odessa’s sewer project will be delayed for about a year due to additional inspections, and hook ups going directly to residences rather than to the property line as originally planned.

Miss Reardan-Edwall will be crowned at the conclusion of the upcoming pageant. Three girls are competing for the title. The Miss Harrington title will also be awarded to one of two contestants.

Davenport school’s music program is sending 22 students to Bi-County Honor Band. 11 high school and 11 middle school students will join other students from the Bi-County performance at the INB Performing Arts Center.

An active shooter drill recently took place in Odessa. Agencies involved included the Odessa police department, fire department, public works, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Odessa Memorial hospital. A few communication glitches were discovered and will be resolved.
