Council reviews skate park; city newspaper determined

Also discusses costs; school agreement

DAVENPORT — The Davenport City Council discussed various community matters during its latest meeting, including the future of the city’s skate park, airport fuel costs, and an agreement with the school district for ballfield use.

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. with all council members present.

A resident inquired about park and cemetery reports and advocated for keeping the skate park in its current location unless an offer was made to relocate it.

Councilmember Lance Strite responded that there had been no progress on property or ownership matters related to the skate park.

The resident emphasized the need for public recreational space in the community. Councilmember Daniel Coriell proposed a meeting with Strite and the resident, identified as Shane, to revisit the issue.

The council discussed the installation of a new airport fuel tank, estimated to cost approximately $300,000.

“There is a grant that would pay for a substantial amount of it,” Councilmember Patrick Katz said. “We would basically have to come up with 5% of that.” The cost includes the initial fuel supply. The council also reviewed Wilbur’s 12,000-gallon fuel tank as a reference.

The “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” program received one applicant, and the council approved paying the applicant’s past-due bill of $281.66.

Strite provided an update on negotiations with the school district regarding an eight-year agreement for ballfield use.

The school board had expressed concerns and was awaiting a response.

The council opted to table the resolution, with Councilmember Heath Becker making the motion, which was approved.

In other news, council members approved a motion to accept and complete the Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) Scrub Seal Street Project.

The Lincoln County Record-Times was designated as the city’s official newspaper.

The council also approved the payment of bills before the meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m., with Katz making the motion to adjourn.
