DAVENPORT — The Davenport City Council discussed the potential relocation of the city’s skate park and concerns over installing a fuel tank at the airport during its regular meeting on March 12.
Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Katz calling the meeting to order. Council members present included Heath Becker, Daniel Coriell, Robert Jenkins, Patrick Katz, Lance Strite and Mike Wilkinson.
Mayor Jon Chapman and Cory Hollis were absent and were excused following a motion by Strite, seconded by Becker. The meeting was available via remote access, and council members met in person.
Council members approved the minutes from the February 26 meeting following a motion by Becker, seconded by Strite. Deputy Chris Stein provided the police report, stating there were 121 calls for service in February. The report included 46 traffic stops, 15 suspicious person reports and seven civil complaints. Katz thanked Stein for his report and his service to the community.
Daniel Coriell reported on discussions about moving the city’s skate park and potentially selling the property where it currently sits.
The committee recommended obtaining a property appraisal and identifying alternative sites for the skate park. Coriell also updated the council on an agreement with the Davenport School District for field rentals, noting that the district agreed in principle to the city’s proposal but wanted more time to review the language.
Mike Wilkinson requested a committee meeting on March 19 at 3 p.m. to discuss the farming contract with Schneider Farms.
Council members agreed to the meeting. Katz expressed concerns about the long-term viability of installing a “Jet A” fuel tank at the city’s airport and suggested reconsidering the submission of an application for a CARB loan for the project.
The council tabled the second reading of Resolution 2025-02, which would authorize the mayor to enter into an eight-year agreement with the Davenport School District for ball field use.
Strite moved to hold a third reading at the next meeting, with Wilkinson seconding the motion. The motion carried.
Council members approved payment of claims and vouchers totaling $136,010.74 and payroll vouchers totaling $64,960.51 following a motion by Strite, seconded by Becker.
Jenkins moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Becker.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
